La Movida wins Social & Digital Media Station of the Year for Music Radio at 2019 WBA Awards Gala
The Wisconsin Broadcasters Association awarded La Movida Radio, Madison’s first and only Spanish-language radio station, the “Music Radio Social and Digital Media Station of the Year” award for major markets at the 2019 awards gala. the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association at Marriott West in Middleton on Saturday, May 4.
“It was super special for us to win this award. It’s the first time they give this award and we were lucky to win it,” said Luis Montoto, director of La Movida radio station, at Madison365. “We did a lot of great work on Facebook and on our website and I think that’s what put us above the other station, especially the interviews we did with [Dane County District Attorney] Ishmael [Ozanne] and [musician and producer] Emilio Estefan and so many other Facebook Lives we made for [Latino] gatherings.
More than 400 people attended the 2019 Wisconsin Broadcasters Association Awards Gala and a total of 123 stations participated.
“It was great to be honored among our peers with all of these great radio and television stations from across Wisconsin,” said Luis Montoto. “It was indeed quite special. Being the first station to win this particular award was also cool.
“For a lot of the interviews that we do on our shows and on El Debate, we do a Facebook Live. When we have a press conference, we’re always busy with our social media,” Lupita Montoto told Madison365. “We really made social media our priority.”
Luis and Lupita Montoto were also presenters as they won “Station of the Year” last year.
“We presented awards and we received awards. It was a fun night,” says Lupita Montoto.
La Movida won a whole host of awards for the evening in addition to its grand prize “Music Radio Social Media and Digital Station of the Year”. La Movida won first place for “Best Live On-Site Coverage” for its ICE in Wisconsin press conference, “Best Use of Social Media Live Stream for ‘El Debate: ICE in Wisconsin,'” Best interview” for “El Débat with the prosecutor Ismael Ozanne” and “Best radio program” for “Jesus Castro El Cachanilla”.
La Movida also won second place for “Best Remote Onsite Live Broadcast” for its coverage of El Grito de Independencia en Viva Mexico and third place for “Best Original Feature” for “On Your Feet! starring Emilio Stefan.
The competition for this year’s awards was stronger than ever with 1,786 entries in total, a new record for the competition.
“The WBA Awards spotlight the best Wisconsin radio and television stations have to offer, including their tremendous service to their communities,” said WBA President and CEO Michelle Vetterkind. in a press release. “Broadcasters are committed to serving their listeners and viewers and the awards give our stations a chance to celebrate their shared mission.”
