Incumbent government avoided default Pakistan was pushed into by PTI: Miftah

Finance Minister Miftah Ismail said the incumbent government had avoided the default Pakistan was being pushed into by the PTI government.

In a series of tweets, he said Pakistan would abide by all international obligations and would not default now.

The finance minister called Imran Khan’s government’s record increase in debt the main reason for pushing the country into default.

He also blamed Imran Khan for ignoring the electricity sector and not buying LNG and oil when they were available at historically low prices on the international market.

He said another reason why Imran Khan’s incompetence caused Pakistan to default was the huge losses in the gas sector.

The Finance Minister said Pakistan should remain committed to reforms and austerity and face the difficult external environment with utmost fiscal discipline.

He said we needed our rich to pay their fair share of taxes.

He also stressed the need to produce more food and increase exports of computers, textiles and other items.
