Baltimore Banner and WYPR Form Joint Operating Agreement
The Baltimore Banner, a multiplatform news organization created by the Venetoulis Institute for Local Journalism, and Your Public Radio (WYPR) 88.1FM, Baltimore’s NPR news station, announced Thursday a joint operating agreement that will allow organizations nonprofits to work collaboratively to deliver quality journalism.
The two teams will work together to cover stories, special reports and develop joint programming to meet the needs of communities in Baltimore and across the state. This includes sharing content on platforms accessible to Baltimore Banner subscribers and the public and members of Your Public Radio. One of the first collaborations will be covering the upcoming local elections.
The agreement provides the opportunity to expand the capacity and reach of each organization’s newsroom, increasing their ability to cover more important issues and stories. The teams will work together, using WYPR’s audio expertise to create a series of joint podcasts and radio programs. The organizations pledged to work collaboratively to strengthen local news by leveraging platforms to reach wider audiences statewide and expanding their distribution channels to include radio, podcasts, video, data and visual journalism.
In addition to content sharing, newsroom collaboration and the ability to reach a wider audience, the agreement enables expanded marketing and sponsorship opportunities, creating added value for sponsors. and financial support for both organizations. The Baltimore banner will benefit from access to WYPR’s audience and fan network, including the recently acquired WTMD 89.7 FM.
